HUMANA, MOLINA, & UNITED HEALTHCARE: Transportation to Medical Appointments in Kentucky
How to access transportation benefit with these health plans:
Unlike some health insurance plans, these plans do not directly cover transportation you may need for non-emergency medical care, like a standard doctor visit. Instead, they route you to Kentucky Medicaid to help cover for the transportation you need.
How do I get a ride through Medicaid?
-
Each county in Kentucky has a transportation broker for Medicaid members. You can only use the transportation broker for a ride if you can’t use your own car or don’t have one.
- If you do have your own car but can't use it for some reason, you will need to provide "proof" of that:
Get a doctor’s note that says you can’t drive.
Get a note from your mechanic if your car doesn’t run.
Get a note from the boss or school official if your car is needed for someone else’s work or school.
Get a copy of the registration if your car is junked.
- If you do have your own car but can't use it for some reason, you will need to provide "proof" of that:
- Transportation to non-emergency medical appointments is only available for a Medicaid-covered service performed by a Medicaid enrolled provider.
- Kentucky Medicaid does NOT cover rides to pick up prescriptions.
- Rides must be scheduled 72 hours in advance.
How do I get connected to a transportation broker?
